Every girl dreams of their wedding day but what about the next best thing, the bachelorette party! There are a lot of ways you could go with this party. You can go sexier with your last night as an unmarried woman, you could go cozier with a spa night in with your girls, but I like a bit of both. This party theme is near to my heart because in my house, the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is an absolute classic and I constantly have it on repeat. I have set up the picture perfect party that will have all your girlfriends "frosted" by the end of the night!
The Decor
A running theme throughout this party is going to be the color yellow. When you think of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days you think of the iconic yellow dress Andie wears to the gala. By adding in little (or big) touches of this same pale yellow we can keep reminding the guests of the main theme. I also want to keep everything feeling light and fun. By adding dainty bows and tulips, it keeps a classy but light feel to the room.
I also really wanted to bring in the themes of Andi's job and New York City. These themes are so important in the movie and will really connect the party to that. You can go bold with a New York backdrop and street signs or you can stick to the light feeling by adding some taxi center pieces, a cute New York inspired garland, or the classic party balloon. Andie works for the magazine, Composure, so I wanted to incorporate that into the party decor. If you wanted to go bold and quirky, you can get cutouts from magazines and use the actual magazine as the decor (this makes it easy to customize to your bride) or you can keep it simple with newspaper as the tie in (you can get newspaper journal pages or newspaper tissue paper to use throughout the party). And of course, we cannot have a How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days party without a love fern making its way to the decor list.
Activities
Ultimately the goal of the Bachelorette party is to celebrate the Bride to be and enjoy your friends' company, but if you are looking for more specific things to do I have a few ways to tie into the movie. First, one of the iconic scenes in the movie is the gala scene. A lot goes down at this party but one of the important parts is the song that Andie and Ben sing. The song, You're So Vain by Carly Simon, is present multiple times in the film, so it is only right that we do a little karaoke in its honor. You can of course sing whatever songs you want but I do recommend adding this classic into the mix. Another running bit throughout the film is the game BS. This is a card game where you lie to try to get rid of all your cards. I have been playing this game since I was a kid and can say that it definitely makes a great party activity for any kind of get together. If you want to get out of the house but still stick to the theme you can go to an event like a Knicks game, going to see Sleepless in Seattle, or a Celine Dion concert (it doesn't have to be those exact ones, any kind of basketball, movie, or concert will keep with the vibe). You can also tie it back to Andi's job by using the magazines to have a scrapbooking or collage night. This is a fun way to sit down with your friends for laid back night, while still bringing in elements from the movie.
Outfits
A themed party really takes it to the next level when everyone is dressed for the occasion. And fortunately for us, there are lot of ways to go with this one. If you want to look like you stepped out of the film, the classic Duke t-shirt or Knicks attire will fit right in. If you all want to dress together but not be completely the same, you can all come in something butter yellow color. This is a great idea if you want to wear dresses just like Andie or you can get comfy in a yellow pajama set. I would also recommend having some jewels on hand if anyone wants to "frost" themselves!
Food
There isn't really a prominent moment with food in the film but there are certainly ways to make it tie into the theme. You can eat like Ben and his guy friends with pizza and beer, or dig into Andie's favorite, a good burger. If you are looking for more finger food, you can get New York styled cookies or just simple movie popcorn. I would also always advocate for a cake (because what is a party without some cake). In the original post I made for this party I included a vintage style white cake with some tiny black bows (would also highly recommend yellow bows). You can also keep it classy with a champagne tower or any pale yellow dessert. Lemon flavored things are often going to come in yellow colors but you can really do any kind of cupcake, cake, cookie, or candy in a yellow color to keep the theme running throughout the dessert table.
I have anything you might need for this party linked in my amazon storefront!
I love this movie and I love how all you guys also want to bring it into your parties! If you through the perfect How to Lose Your Last Name in 10 Days party or just took inspiration from these ideas, I would love to see/ hear about it!
