Peter Pan Party

The 2003 Peter Pan movie is one of my all time favorite films. I grew up watching it and truly never stopped loving it! I wanted to bring some of the magic from the film to life through food, and there was born the Peter Pan Party.

The Theme and Decorations

Obviously the theme is centered around Peter Pan but this version of the movie is filled with so much more than you might think of in the classic animated Disney version. There are a lot more whimsical and fantasy elements that I wanted to highlight. And a lot of the inspiration was taken from woodland areas the scenes are set in. This led to us having small pinecones and pumpkins set around the table. We also used thin wooden stumps as coasters and layed gold coins to fill in the spaces.

Peter Pan and the Lost boys have a very cool hideaway in a tree. Everything is made of wood and is covered in things from the forest. They have melted candles laying everywhere and a big table where they can all gather around for stories. I took some of those elements into our party table by adding candles of different heights around the the table and the room and floated fairy lights around everything. I also didn't want to forget a flower so we could take our medicine just like the lost boys must.

The Food

We were treating this party as a dinner so we wanted to include substantal food but also desserts. For the main dinner element we went with chicken salad sandwhiches. These are one of my favorites and are super easy to make, but we still needed to incorporate the theme. We added eyeball sprinkles to pretzel sticks and stuck them into the top of the sandwiches. We then added some slices of peppers so the sides of the sandwiches. These additions make them look like crabs! Also, on the savory side, we had a lady bug caprese salad. We did this by taking basil leaves and laying down first and then adding thinly sliced mozzerela circles ontop. You then take tomato slices (cherry tomato halves would look the best) and use balsamic glaze to add the black lines and dots of the lady bug. I would recommend a squeeze bottle or piping bag that has a very small hole for the glaze, or it may get everywhere and look a little messy.

For the main dessert element I really wanted to pull from the whimsical forest vibe. So, the first dessert was a raspberry cream filled mushroom. This had a meringue stem and then a chocolate mushroom top. And because I can't ever decide on one treat to make, the second dessert was inspired by Peter and Wendy's kiss in the film. If you have seen the movie, you know that Wendy and Peter share some "kisses" and one of them is actually an acorn. To highlight this plot point, I made acorns out of chocolate covered strawberries. I did this by adding some cookie to the top of the strawberry to look like the acorn top, and the I dipped the whole thing in chocolate.

Hook is such an important part to the story, so I felt like we needed another pirate element to the dinner. We went with some pirate sail jello cups. This was the simplest of the food elements to put together. You just add some blue jello to clear cups and stick in your pirate sails (we just made ours out of paper and toothpicks). These are also super customizable because you can decorate the sails however you would like, and you can also add things to the bottom of the jello cups for a more ocean feel (would highly recommend some gummy alligators).

The final edible element was the drinks. We had to have at least one character specific food item, so we created Tinkerbell Floats. All you need to do is add some green edible glitter to sprite, and lime sherbert. We then topped it with a whipped cream swirl, some sugar fairy wings, and a little bit more green glitter!

I Love This Movie

I will look for any excuse to watch this movie, let alone get to make an entire day out of it. The decor and the food just makes you feel like you are in the same magical forest as Peter and the Lost Boys! I hope this brought a bit more whimsy to your movie nights and I would love to see your guys' Peter Pan dinner party spreads!
